Hour kinds and rule lists

Go to: Payroll → Hour kinds.

  1. Name your kinds: the kinds of hours your payroll pays (Ordinary, Overtime 1.5, Saturday, Public holiday, Annual leave), and units for allowances (Meal allowance, First aid, Km).
  2. New rule list: who it's for (Everyone, people with tags, or By a field: Contract is Casual, Pay level is from 1 to 3, Licences includes First aid), its rules, and Everything else, the kind for hours no rule takes.
  3. Rules, top to bottom; the first that fits each hour decides its kind:
    • Hours over N a day, week, pay period or a cycle of weeks. Or their own number field, such as Contracted hours; anyone without one uses N.
    • Days and public holidays: Sat, Sun, public holidays.
    • Between times: 19:00–06:00 (it can cross midnight).
    • Day N or more in a row, travel between jobs, leave (each kind of leave).
    • Top-ups (a shift under 3 h topped up) and units (1 per shift, per split shift, per shift over N h, km).
    • Also add: the hours stay where they are and are added to another kind too (a night loading on top of Ordinary).
    • Only where: at some sites, on some projects, for some work types, or where a project's, site's or work type's field matches.
  4. People get the first list (in order) they fit. Drag lists to order them.

Under the rules, a real week from your workspace is drawn with each hour coloured by its kind, with the totals. Change a rule and it redraws. Try a shift shows where a pretend shift would land (nothing is saved).

Example: Harbour Café: kinds Ordinary, Overtime 1.5, Saturday, Sunday, Public holiday. One list for Everyone: Public holidays → Public holiday, Sun → Sunday, Sat → Saturday, Hours over 38 in a week → Overtime 1.5, everything else Ordinary. Part-timers get their own list (By a field: Contract is Part-time) with Hours over their own Contracted hours a week → Overtime 1.5.
